Where Dorset meets Devon and the rolling countryside tumbles to the sea nestles the fascinating town of Lyme Regis.

Lyme Regis is an ancient town - its roots stretch back to the 8th century when monks distilled salt from the sea. The sea has, of course, been central to the community’s development; the famous Cobb breakwater, first constructed in the 13th Century provided essential harbour protection for the development of a thriving trading port. The area is world famous for fossils and as a sporting playground; swimming, sailing, windsurfing and angling, are some of the activities on offer.

Lyme has over the years inspired many artists and writers including Jane Austin who set part of her novel "Persuasion" in Lyme. With events organised in the town all the year round and a mountain of history to discover, there is something here for everyone. The atmosphere of this unique and favoured town, once experienced, will soon weave its spell and you’ll be coming back for more!
